RTMS PTA Officer & Committee Descriptions:

 

CO-PRESIDENTS –

Oversee the activities of the PTA; meet with Ms. Melin on a regular basis to determine how the PTA can help the school & what school happenings are pertinent to the PTA; conduct general PTA meetings four times a year; serve as members of the PTA budget committee; preside over month PTA Board meetings.

 

TREASURER –

Oversee the finances of the PTA; serve as a member of the PTA budget committee; prepare budget/income statements & write checks for reimbursement/payment; utilize Quicken or something similar to track all PTA expenses.

 

RECORDING SECRETARY –

Takes minutes at all PTA Board meetings and all general PTA meetings; types up the minutes.

 

COMMUNICATIONS SECRETARY –

Manages any correspondence for the PTA; this includes sympathy cards for staff and PTA Board members, when needed; writes thank yous for large PTA initiatives/programs; communicates new officer lists to N Fulton Council.   The following chair people will report to this secretary, as well.

     Email coordinator- Manages PTA database of email addresses for communication purposes.
     Publicity- Publicize the PTA and school through press releases and media; photograph major school events.
     Web page – Update PTA web page on a monthly basis with PTA events, needs and announcements.
 

VP ACADEMIC SUPPORT – Oversees:

Environmental Program – Plan an environmental awareness program.  This program could include focus centered around Earth Day, involving entire school or specifically 6th grade since they do study Earth Science.  Could be expanded to include recycling programs.

Legislation – Monitor proposed and pending legislation and distribute information to school and parents.  May involve meetings at the Capitol and some lobbying.

Reflections – Organize and coordinate the Reflections program.  This National PTA program encourages students to explore their talents by competing in Literature, Musical Composition, Photography, and Visual Arts.  Students submit works in any of the four areas that are original and tied into a theme. 

Technology Fair – Assist with planning and organization of the school’s Technology Fair.
 

VP SCHOOL SUPPORT – Oversees:


Book Fair
– Plan the Book Fair; obtain volunteers to help with the fair.

Building/Campus Beautification – Assist with landscape design, planting / watering plan and beautification of the building and campus.

Media Center  - Coordinate volunteers to work in the Media Center.

Mini Grants – Oversee & fund teacher grants that enhance the curriculum & benefit the most students.

Picture Day – Coordinate volunteers to help with the two picture days each year.

Staff Appreciation  – Organize & plan staff luncheons throughout the year.  In addition, organize & plan activities & surprises for the teachers during Staff Appreciation Week.


VP COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT – Oversees:


Directory –
work with front office in obtaining student information; format information according to T’lehs requirements. Organize distribution.   

Hospitality / Newcomers – Provide refreshments at designated school functions; organize newcomers coffees twice a year.

International Relations – organize/coordinate cultural awareness days for the different cultures represented at the school.

Parent to Parent - Help facilitate discussion groups during our Parent to Parent programs, which are designed to provide parents with practical “hands on” ideas for raising children in today’s world.

Volunteer Coordinator – Maintains volunteer database & matches volunteer interests to committees. In addition, tabulates volunteer hours for state and local reports.

Wolf Pack Nights – organize & plan family fun activities at local restaurants and area establishments where families can interact and generate some funds for the school as well.


VP WAYS & MEANS – Oversees:


Membership –
Oversee the PTA membership drive; assist with membership list.

Incentives – Promote & publicize different incentive programs where the school can earn extra money including Kroger, Publix, DirecTV and Office Depot.

School Store – Manage & operate the school store.

Spirit Wear – Sell school spirit wear at a variety of events.

Yearbook Sales – Promote & publicize the sale of the yearbook for the school.   School will still manage design layout, etc.  


VP STUDENT SUPPORT – Oversees:


Exceptional Children’s Week
– organize Exceptional Children’s Week in early March. Focus should center on how each child is exceptional.  Time can also be dedicated to highlighting how many ways we can help those who have Special Needs  (seeing eye dogs, wheel chairs, hearing aids, glasses, Braille machines, etc.)

Health & Safety – organize & manage Scoliosis Screening of 6th & 8th grade students in February. In addition, plan at least one other event that focuses on safety for the students (i.e. internet safety, self defense, skin cancer prevention, babysitting course, even a blood drive)

Odyssey of the Mind – A national program that promotes team-based problem solving for children of all ages. This program helps them learn divergent thinking and problem solving skills while participating as a team in a series of challenging and motivating activities.  Team coaches facilitate the process and keep them on task. 

Pack ‘Em In Dance – School wide dance held in late August…

Red Ribbon Week – organize Red Ribbon Week activities in October.

8th Grade Dance – Plan and organize the 8th grade dance held in May.


PARLIAMENTARIAN
– APPOINTED by the President(s). Assures proper Parliamentary procedure is followed at all PTSA meetings; will automatically serve as the PTSA Executive Board’s Temporary Chair of the Nominating Committee from late January – late March/April.


PTA Board Members –

~ Meet once a month at scheduled RTMS PTA Board Meetings – typically last 2 hours

~ Attend occasional General PTA Meetings

~ Oversee your area of concern on a general basis
